About Folio

What is Folio

FOLIO is a Web-based database that gathers curriculum vitae (CV), NIH Biosketch, and research interest information. After this information has been entered, faculty can generate CVs and Biosketches in paper or electronic (MS Word or PDF files) format. In the next phase of development a variety of reports that use the FOLIO information will be available. Ultimately, FOLIO will serve as a one-stop portal to simplify and facilitate the information maintenance responsibilities of faculty.

Benefits

Administrative Support: Faculty and researchers will be able to create and update electronic CVs and Biosketches and, in the very near future, publish applicable information into public directories.

Academic Operations: (Near future) Electronic portfolios will accelerate the preparation of departmental merit and promotion packages and provide updates on faculty and researcher activities.

Collaboration: As data is collected, search capabilities will enable researchers to quickly find and share ideas and resources with colleagues in specific fields, or with expertise in certain techniques or core activities.

Campuswide Integration: (Near future) In collaboration with the UCSF Link Project, FOLIO is designed to fold efficiently into campuswide data management systems, further streamlining online research and grant administration. With FOLIO, faculty will be able to export their NIH biosketches to the UCSF Link PI Portfolio.

Security: FOLIO provides a central and secure location for professional and academic information.

Beyond: The Dean's Office will continue to keep you informed of new features, support, and goals for FOLIO. Please encourage your faculty to familiarize themselves with FOLIO early on, as more and more business functions will be become dependent on the information that is stored in FOLIO.
