Carol Miller, MD
Clinical Professor
Department of Pediatrics

A gifted clinician who served ten years as a pediatrician in the community before joining the UCSF faculty Dr. Carol Miller exemplifies the best qualities of "a real doctor"; in her words, she "found the challenges of practicing patient-centered medicine within an academic setting intriguing." She has served as a small group leader, one of the course's most effective, in Foundations of Patient Care and regularly achieves ratings significantly above the course mean. Her work in Pediatrics 110 is equally strong. However, it may be as a mentor and advisor that Dr. Miller has her greatest impact. There simply is no one like her. A students writing to describe her work as an advisor wrote: [Dr. Miller] was an excellent listener…she was warm and supportive on a personal as well as an academic level. She has a very positive, empowering approach to mentoring. She is a wonderful role model and teacher." Another student writes: "…I know that I could turn to Dr. Miller whenever necessary and she would be able to assist me in finding a solution whether my problems were academic or personal. Thus she truly embodies the qualities of a great mentor. She is talented at guiding students and clarifying their goals and effective at getting results in a group setting, as well as being a warm and caring person."
