California Licensure

The California Medical Board allows US/Canadian medical school graduates to complete up to 24 months of ACGME-accredited training before being licensed, simply by submitting an L3-registration form to the GME office. International medical school graduates have up to 36 months to get licensed. The Dean’s Office of Graduate Medical Education encourages you to start applying for the license as soon as you are eligible, as the process can take several months. Please note that it is illegal to continue your ACGME training beyond 24 months (36 months) without a license. For non-ACGME clinical training, the fellow must have a California medical license before starting any training.
