March 2004
Daryl L.K. Kaneshiro
As Assistant III in the Neonatal Brain Disorder Center in the Department
of Neurology, Kei Kaneshiro is the “…glue and the bright light
…” that keeps the unit running smoothly. When there is a visiting
professor “… in addition to performing all of the administrative
duties associated with the visit, she will welcome and shepherd the visitor
as if she/he were family. Time and again, our visitors have commented
on the outstanding hospitality they received at our school because of
her actions.”
Her nominators describe her as always courteous, thoughtful, generous
of spirit, intelligent and truly caring about the outcome of her job.
On top of that, her Parmesan crackers are terrific!

Betsy Llosa
Betsy Llosa works as an Assistant III in the Department of Medicine’s
Ergonomics Lab in Richmond, California. On a daily basis, she contributes
to the ongoing positive work environment in the lab, coordinating social
meetings and gatherings to celebrate personal and professional successes
of faculty, staff and students.

Susan J. O'Hara
The Department of Radiology’s new clinical and research facility
in China Basin opened its doors in fall 2003. Susan O’Hara, Chief
Financial Officer, worked with her Finance and Research Administration
team, with the Department Manager and with human resources to develop
an organization with good financial practices, strong controls and a supportive
administrative organization for the faculty who moved there. All of this
was done with tact, dedication and skill and her easy-going personality!

Lamorna Brown Swigart
Lamorna Brown Swigart, is an Academic Specialist in the Evan Lab in the
Cancer Research Institute, and, according to one of her nominators, is
the cornerstone of the lab. Another nominator told us that Lamorna has
a plaque on her office wall that reads "do you want to speak to the
man in charge or to the woman who knows what's going on?"
As lab manager, not only does she take care of the details that keep
the lab running without any problems, she provides sound advice and solutions,
she helps keep the lab “feeling like a family… by doing little
things such as giving each of us each specially ordered chocolates at
Christmas or by placing valentine's day candies outside our lab for us
to snack on. And of course she was the purchaser of our lab birthday hat!”
A celebration morning coffee was held on May 24th to cheer Lamorna for
her achievement of receiving a Great People Award!!!
