Data Encryption Data Encryption is required when a customer is identified as having data designated to be Restricted Data, Confidential Information, Personal Information, Protected Health Information (PHI), or Licensed Information as defined by 650-16 Information Security and Confidentiality located at http://policies.ucsf.edu/650/65016.htm The password is always the weak link in utilizing data encryption tools. If passwords are forgotten, the data may be lost and unrecoverable and therefore incremental backups of the encrypted data is strongly recommended and encouraged. If your system is stolen while you are logged in, your data is not encrypted and is readily accessible. To configure data encryption on your Mac or Windows computer, please contact your Computer Support Coordinator (CSC) or if your computer is supported by ISU, please contact the ISU Helpdesk. |
