Leadership in International Health Education

• Global Health Education Consortium (GHEC): UCSF is an institutional member of GHEC, the Global Health Education Consortium, which represents ~300 faculty involved in IH teaching and mentoring in more than 60 health professions schools. UCSF students are eligible to join as student members under the auspices of UCSF's institutional membership. UCSF students regularly present scholarly work at the annual meeting of GHEC.

  The "Resources" section of the GHEC website has three very helpful sources of information designed for students and residents. These include: "Annotated List of International Health Related Websites" with more than 100 highly relevant sites selected from the millions available on the web; "Foreign Language Study and International Health Work: Selected Resources"; and, "The GHEC Guidebook: Advising Medical Students and Residents for International Health Experiences."

• International Health Interest Group (IHIG): In 1996, UCSF, UC Berkeley and Stanford collaborated to form what is now, with the addition of UCSF Davis, the Northern California International Health Interest Group (IHIG). This group meets six times each academic year in faculty homes to discuss a wide variety of IH topics. Meeting venues rotate around the Bay Area, starting with a light dinner to accommodate those coming from a distance, and are attended by faculty, students and practitioners. IHIG also sponsors an annual conference, held on a Saturday in the late winter and is hosted in turn by the four regional universities. • International Health Student Interest Group (IHSIG): Raising awareness in the UCSF community about international health issues. Students from all UCSF schools are welcome to participate.
  
  
• UCSF Remedy: A student-run organization dedicated to the international distribution of medical supplies.
  
  
• Global Health Council: The world's largest membership alliance dedicated to global health, the Council is made up of individuals and NGOs, foundations, corporations, government agencies and academic institutions that work to ensure global health for all. The Council serves as the voice for action on global health issues and the voice for progress in the global health field through grassroots organizing, advocating policy changes, and through its publications.
  
• AIDS Action Network: The only all-campus student AIDS advocacy group with involvement from students from the medicine, pharmacy, nursing, and dental schools. The goal of AIDS Action Network is to bring together socially-minded students from the various schools at UCSF in order to create a place of discourse and awareness about HIV and AIDS-related issues, as well as to promote action-based activities throughout the campus. The group's three main focuses are global action, social activism, and community outreach.
