About ISU Who are we and what do we do? Led by Director Opinder Bawa, the School of Medicine Information Services Unit is an innovative and diverse group of technology facilitators, engineers, and designers. We support many aspects of computing including: ISU predominantly supports Dell and Microsoft platforms, but as demands
increase and vary we have added support for Macs and a variety of hosted
platforms. Our initiatives are focused primarily on the administrative,
research, and educational needs of the School of Medicine, and secondarily
on broader campus development efforts and partnerships with other medical
schools (for example, we distribute and support Ilios
for other medical schools). How does ISU fit within in the School of Medicine? ISU is organized within the Office of the Dean and reports to the Vice
Dean for Administration and Finance. The Office of the Dean has overall
academic and administrative responsibility for the academic departments,
organized research units, and interdisciplinary centers that make up the
School of Medicine. ISU is the largest of many departmental IT organizations
that provide IT support to the School under a decentralized support model.
ISU provides all services to the Dean's Office, offers significantly subsidized
e-mail, file, and Web hosting services to all departments within the School
of Medicine, and offers all other services to the School, campus, and
other medical schools at cost. Additionally, ISU provides leadership and
representation on behalf of the school in a number of areas including
strategic planning, IT Governance,
compliance, and information security.
