The process of setting and enforcing desktop standards must
be a shared responsibility between IT and major stakeholders whether they
be business administrators, financial managers, faculty or others. The
success or failure of most day to day work rests on the stability and
reliability of desktop computer systems.
A standard desktop configuration encompasses the hardware, operating
system and software on the computer. In most cases, a common base configuration
will support maximum leveraging of the standard while extensions or exceptions
