Pathways to Discovery Program

Call for Proposals

The School of Medicine Office of Medical Education (OME) is pleased to announce the initiation of the Pathways to Discovery Program (Pathways). This call for proposals launches the first cycle of program proposals and funding.

Deadlines:
  • Letters of Intent for the first round are due November 30, 2007
  • Final Proposals are due March 1, 2008 .

Program Description

The goal of the Pathways Program is to foster the pursuit of discovery, inquiry, and innovation as part of the career of every physician trained at UCSF, by providing students and trainees with opportunities for in-depth training in one of several areas of inquiry that go beyond the routine practice of medicine. Pathways will constitute a major effort to expand and integrate the scope of the existing Area of Concentration Program (AoC) for medical students and Area of Distinction Program (AoD) for residents. Each pathway will be built around a core curriculum that includes didactic coursework, a variable period of full-time research or work focused on inquiry or innovation, and a legacy product such as a publication or completed program – all of which will lead toward the award of a Certificate or Master's Degree.

The OME seeks proposals in each of seven areas:

  • Clinical and Translational Research
  • Community Health/Advocacy/Health Disparities
  • Global and Public Health
  • Health Systems and Health Policy
  • Medical Education
  • Molecular Medicine
  • Social and Behavioral Sciences
