UCSF is fortunate to have a dedicated group of faculty who serve on the MSTP Council. The Council is composed of well-established and prominent senior faculty as well as junior faculty who were MSTP trainees and have shown commitment to the program. Council members are chosen based on their scientific excellence, good judgment, and commitment to the MSTP. Because many of the Council members are themselves physician scientists, they serve as role models for our students.
Functions of the Council include screening files, interviewing applicants, selecting candidates for admission, functioning as MSTP liaisons in various graduate programs, and helping in the formulation of MSTP policy. Council members also serve as formal advisors for 1st and 2nd year students. In addition, the Council participates in various functions of the MSTP, including the annual retreat, MSTP Networking Dinners, and MSTP Grand Rounds.
