Director's Welcome

Welcome to the UCSF MSTP Website!

Currently in our 32nd year, we continue to attract talented and energetic students who are passionate about improving human health through patient care and research. We seek individuals who are truly committed to a career that combines clinical medicine and scientific inquiry, and who recognize that patience and determination are essential to achieve this goal. The members of our faculty and MSTP Council value UCSF for its clinical excellence, scientific rigor, and collegiality. We seek to instill these attributes in our students.

As MSTP Director, it is not uncommon for me to hear that one of our students has gone out of his or her way to help other medical students understand a complex scientific concept or to explain the nuances of a clinical disease to a graduate school colleague. I am especially pleased to know that our program fosters this type of interaction. Our MSTP draws upon exceptional institutional excellence and breadth in both clinical and basic science disciplines, and we emphasize mentorship at all levels of our training.
