ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

  • UCSF Fresno celebrated the opening of their new Clinical research Center on October 10.
  • Sharecase 2013 is next Friday, November 8 at the Mission Bay Conference Center and includes a morning keynote from Dean Sam Hawgood on the role of IT in the Clinical Enterprise Strategic Plan and an afternoon keynote from UCSF advocate and SV Angel Ron Conway. The day’s schedule includes dozens of useful presentations on topics such as Using Drupal at UCSFAgile MDDigital HealtheProposal, and Cloud Computing. Over sixty booths will represent a broad range of technology and communications in the Expo Hall. Register a friend for opportunities to win prizes.
  • Nominations are now open for the 15th annual Holly Smith Awards for Exceptional Service to the School of Medicine. Up to three individuals – one faculty, two staff – will be selected to receive this award which comes with a cash prize of $5,000. Nomination packets are due by Tuesday, November 26.
  • The UCSF AIDS Research Institute is calling for nominations for its Award for Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring.
  • LaunchPad is a new online resource that highlights the challenges and opportunities of translating research into patient benefit.
  • The UC Berkeley-UCSF Master of Translational Medicine program is accepting applications for Fall 2014 now through February 3, 2014. Interested applicants may contact MTM Executive Director Kyle Kurpinski, PhD with questions.
  • UCSF Launches “Teach for UCSF” Teaching Certification Program.
  • The University invites comments on proposed changes to the Academic Personnel Manual sections (APM 025, 671) on Outside Professional Activity. If you wish to provide comments, please contact Cynthia Lynch Leathers at cal@acadpers.ucsf.edu by January 3, 2014.

HONORS and APPOINTMENTS


Alexis Armenakis, MD, received an Association for Academy Psychiatry (AAP) Fellowship Award.

Keith Armstrong, LCSW, was named the 2013 VA Social Worker of the Year by the Veterans Health Administration (VHA).

Jeffrey Bluestone, PhD, Molly Cooke, MD, FACP, and Matthew State, MD, PhD, have been elected to the Institute of Medicine.

Wylie Burke, MD, PhD, was announced as the 2013-2014 Presidential Chair.

Rahul Chandrakant Deo, MD, PhD; Lei Stanley Qi, PhD; Shomyseh Sanjabi, PhD; David Weinberg, PhD and Leor Weinberger, PhD, all were recipients of NIH Director’s Awards.

Amy Gelfand, MD, was selected as the 2013 Irene Perstein Awardee.

Lennart Mucke, MD, received the ARCS Foundation’s 2013 Pacesetter Award for his lifelong dedication to overcoming Alzheimer’s disease

Philip Rosenthal, MD, was named by the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) as editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.

Steven Schroeder, MD, received the Gustav O. Lienhard award, which recognizes individuals for outstanding achievements in improving health care services in the United States.

Laura Stachel, MD, Class of 1985 was nominated for a CNN Hero award, http://heroes.cnn.com/
