University of California, San Francisco Quick Guide to UCSF Educational Technology Grant Opportunities
School
of Medicine, Academy of Medical Educators: The Academy of Medical Educators at the UCSF School of Medicine seeks to promote constructive curricular change through the development of new or improved teaching programs and learning opportunities. The Academy seeks to improve, enrich and strengthen our existing curriculum by the infusion of innovative programs or strategies at any level in the medical school. Academy innovations funding focuses on medical student education; programs may involve other learners but the link to improvement of medical student education must be clear. The curriculum at the UCSF School of Medicine has many strengths, but ongoing assessment by internal and external reviewers highlights several areas for fruitful development. In general, the Academy seeks to fund projects that increase collaboration across current discipline or department boundaries within the medical school, and such projects will likely be attractive to reviewers. Projects that link the basic sciences with the clinical sciences, for instance, would likely improve or enrich our students' education. Likewise, projects that span more than one year of the medical school's classes education would strengthen our current curriculum. In addition to any "new" courses that might be developed, projects that specifically address the evaluation or quality improvement of the curriculum are particularly sought and will be considered a priority for Academy funding. Deadline: May and November

University of California, All Campuses Learning, and Technology Collaborative Grants -- SuspendedAs of January 29, 2004, the TLtC Intercampus Collaborative Grants program is suspended due to budget cuts. Projects already funded can expect their funding commitment to be honored. Feasibility/Planning Mini-Grants Awards up to $5000 are awarded to faculty who are already engaged in incorporating technological tools into teaching and learning and their methodologies could be adapted for export to other departments and/or other campuses. In this instance a small Feasibility Mini-Grant for the purpose of determining the feasibility of developing a collaborative effort would be in order. On the other hand, faculty in common or different disciplines across campuses may already be familiar with one another's work might employ a Planning Mini-Grant to plan the collaboration and prepare a full-scale implementation proposal (see below). Deadline: November Full-Scale Implementation Grants Awards of up to $75,000 per year are available for up to three years for a total of $225,000. These are designed to encourage faculty who have already developed uses of technology-mediated instruction to extend their scope and reach beyond the individual faculty member's course to other courses either within or outside the discipline, on their own or other campuses. The goal is to spread curricular innovation beyond a single course and take advantage of the creative solutions to pedagogical problems for the benefit of larger numbers of students and faculty across the system. Participation in this grants program requires a commitment from schools and departments from all participating campuses. Initial development is expected to be funded at the campus level. TLtC will fund development associated with scaling up to multiple campuses. Deadline: April
The University of California Digital Media Innovation Program (DiMI) is a matching grants program that partners California companies and UC system wide researchers in research and education to advance digital media technologies. The DiMI Program also supports research that will accelerate the application of new digital media technologies to California needs. The DiMI Program produces new knowledge, technology innovations, and highly skilled people to sustain California's leadership. It is part of President Atkinson's Industry-University Cooperative Research Program, which accelerates UC contributions to California's global digital technology economy. The DiMI Program has over $3.5 million in the 1999-00 fiscal year, which will be matched at least $1:$1 by private sponsors. Deadline: January WGEA Call for Proposals - Advancing the WGEA as a Community of Educational Scholars The WGEA is providing a funding opportunity to new investigators in the area of medical education research.
