Policy on Program Evaluation
A core mission of the Office of Educational Technology is to contribute to the growth and enhancement of education, including teaching and learning at the UCSF School of Medicine, through scholarly, appropriate, and rigorous evaluation practices. OET oversees all curricular evaluation and learner assessment for undergraduate medical education. This oversight includes both the ongoing curriculum, as well as pilot studies or innovations implemented within the curriculum. OET is responsible to ensure that all curriculum evaluation is conducted in an appropriate and effective manner. This includes:
All plans and instruments for the evaluation of SOM curriculum designed by course directors and faculty must be assessed and approved by OET. Evaluation results intended for scholarly publication require Committee for Human Research (CHR) approval prior to data collection. In addition to CHR approval, evaluation instruments intended for medical students as subjects must be approved first by the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, and then checked for quality by the Assistant Director for Evaluation in the Office of Educational Technology, prior to administration.
