OET Service Policies

The Office of Medical Education has approved the following policies related to the provision of support services provided by the Office of Educational Technology.

Service Priorities

Based upon the mission of the School of Medicine and the Office of Educational Technology, we provide services as follows in order of priority:

  1. Projects directly related to medical student teaching, learning, and evaluation.
  2. School-wide projects related to the teaching and learning of residents
  3. Projects funded externally that relate to*:
    • Health professions education in general
    • Patient education
    • Consumer education

Services Available for Hourly Charge

OET can provide limited services at an hourly rate for School of Medicine projects that do not fall into our service priorities.

Guidelines and Clarification

OET primarily provides consultation services in the design and implementation of instructional media, educational research and evaluation. OET can provide limited support for the production or implementation of prototype instructional programs or the evaluation of programs. OET is not staffed to provide free production or support services or ongoing evaluation services that require significant resources.

OET may contract for a fee with units within the School of Medicine to provide needed production and ongoing evaluation support services.

*OET services provided for externally funded projects are done so under a contract between OET (with the Director’s approval) and the principal investigator or project director.
