Pathway to Discovery in Health and Society

For prospective students, residents, and fellows:

The Pathway to Discovery in Health and Society (H&S) prepares health professionals for careers in which they advance health by engaging society. Specifically, the H&S Pathway supports careers of innovation and discovery through the development of competency in the following substantive areas and skills:

The H&S Pathway encompasses several programs previously offered for students and residents in the School of Medicine: the Areas of Concentration (AoC) in Community Health and Social Advocacy, Health Care Systems and the Physician Leader, and Social Sciences in Medicine, and the Areas of Distinction (AoD) in Health Equities and Leadership and Health Systems. The H&S Pathway will be integrated with education and training programs in the Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy.

All H&S learners will participate in the Pathway's Core Program that includes coursework, mentoring, and project work. Medical students and residents in some programs can complete the Core Program without taking an additional year. The Pathway is in the process of developing an Advanced Program that will require an additional year.
