Pathway to Discovery in Health and Society
Course Offerings
The H&S curriculum reflects the Pathway's multidisciplinary approach, commitment to evaluation and improvement, and emphasis on self-directed learning. Courses are in active development. The curriculum will be available for learners across schools and at different career stages. As the curriculum develops, current UCSF students and residents will be grandfathered in as appropriate. Core Program - requires a total of 16 course units including:
H&S Core Course I & II : Foundation-level coursework with overview of areas of inquiry and skills (5 units)
Works in Progress Seminars and Health and Society Colloquia : Monthly meetings to provide longitudinal continuity (1 unit)
Core Electives : In-depth coursework relevant to at least one substantive and one skill area as well as coursework on health disparities. We anticipate offering Core Electives in the summer between MS1-MS2. (8 units)
Final Reflections : Summary/reflection just prior to graduation including presentation of legacy/capstone (2 units)
Advanced Program - requires a total of 37 course units including:
Core Program (16 units)
Works in Progress Seminar and Health and Society Colloquia : Continued participation in monthly meetings (1 unit)
Research Methods : courses in each of social science/health services, behavioral science, community-based participatory research (12 units)
Advanced Electives : in-depth coursework relevant to a substantive and skill area not covered by learner in Core Program (8 units)
