 Mission
& Goals
The mission of PRIME-US is to nurture, support and equip medical
students to carry out their goal of effectively providing healthcare to
vulnerable urban populations.
More specifically, the goals of PRIME-US are to:
- attract medical students who intend to serve the urban underserved,
- give these students the skills and support they need to succeed
in their future medical practice,
- create leaders in the field of urban underserved health care, and
- increase the number of graduates devoted to the health of the urban
underserved.
To achieve these goals, PRIME-US relies on:
- Curriculum. PRIME-US offers a logitudinal curriculum
that gives the conceptual framework, knowledge base, and tools to
improve the health and health care of vulnerable populations and communities.
- Community Engagement. PRIME-US students engage
in service learning activities and community-based projects. PRIME-US
has established partnerships with community clinics and community-based
service organizations in underserved neighborhoods
- Clinical Immersio.
Each PRIME-US participant is assigned to a neighborhood clinic in
an underserved community. During clerkships, students have the opportunity
to work in Bay Area hospitals serving vunerable populations.
- Mentoring. A variety of mentoring experiences are
provided to ensure the personal and professional success of all PRIME-US
students.
