| Born in India, my family moved to Berkeley when I was one year
old. I have spent the remainder of my life in the Bay Area, growing
up in Berkeley, going to Stanford for college, and then circling
the bay to end up at UCSF for medical school. I stayed at UCSF for
my residency in internal medicine (categorical and VA PRIME programs)
and, after a brief stint at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, joined
the faculty at UCSF in 1997. I have been based at the VA Medical
Center since that time, engaged in a number of activities that include
patient care, teaching, and administration. I have gotten involved
in leading small groups for Problem-Based Learning and Foundations
of Patient Care, and now serve as one of the co-directors for the
new Area of Concentration in Community Health and Advocacy. I also
enjoy working with and teaching about underserved populations, and
I serve as one of the faculty advisors for the UCSF Homeless Clinic.
I have been heavily involved in medicine residency at UCSF and am
looking forward to become more involved in medical student education.
On a personal note, I recently moved to Noe Valley after too many
years in the fog of the Inner Sunset, and although I miss being
close to Golden Gate Park, I really like having sunnier days! In
my free time, I like to play squash, go hiking, see movies, and
eat at inexpensive ethnic restaurants in San Francisco. Having grown
up in a thirty-mile radius, I am fortunate to have many family and
friends in the area, although I do make an effort to travel out
of the country most years.
Having graduated from UCSF, I am excited to see the Advisory College
system take root here, and I feel honored to be a part of it. I
look forward to working with you all during your time at UCSF and
to helping you make the most out of your experience with us!
