Jury Duty Policy

If you are called for jury duty, please come to/contact Student Affairs before you are called, and get a letter from us. We reference your juror # and the court location in our letter, so have that handy if you call or email us. Mail the letter so that it arrives at the court before your summons date.

When the Court receives the letter from UCSF, they will excuse you for one year, the maximum length of time possible. They enter a note in their system that you provided a letter from UCSF and note the expected graduation date. If you are summoned again in subsequent years while still in medical school, you can simply submit a statement to the court on the response form that you are still a student and the court will excuse you again.

If you are called to any county besides San Francisco county, and you live in San Francisco county, just check off the box on the form that says you do not reside in that county and mail in your form.
