Teaching Scholars Program
is
Assistant Clinical Professor in the UCSF Department of Anesthesia and
Perioperative Care. He completed his anesthesia training in 2000 and
has been a clinical anesthesiologist at San Francisco General Hospital,
where he supervises anesthesia residents and medical students. His main
areas of interest have been procedure and crisis simulation, regional
anesthesia, and multimedia education. Consequently he has become the
associate director of the UCSF Center for Health Care Simulation, the
associate director of the regional anesthesia rotation for anesthesia
residents, and the Anesthesia 110 site director and skills session director
at SFGH. Using a UCSF library instructional grant, he has been creating
a set of professional-quality digital instructional videos for regional
anesthesia, focusing on emerging ultrasound-guided techniques. In the
upcoming academic year Dr. Collins will be applying video-based instruction
to basic procedure training at the medical student level.
