Teaching Scholars Program

Katherine M. Hyland, PhD is Assistant Adjunct Professor, Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics. She received a Masters of Science degree in molecular cytogenetics from Rutgers University, earned a PhD in Molecular and Human Genetics from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and completed a post-doctoral research fellowship in cancer biology at the UCSF Cancer Research Institute. She is currently the course director for the Cancer block in the first year of the UCSF Medical School Essential Core Curriculum, and director of the Genetics discipline throughout the first two years of the ECC. In these positions, she is responsible for coordinating lectures, laboratories and small group discussions, training small group leaders, writing and editing syllabus sections and exams, leading meetings with faculty, curriculum development and teaching.
