Teaching Scholars Program Tim Kelly, MD (TSP 1999-2000) is Director, Core Clerkship and Intern Selection for the Department of Pediatrics at UCSF. He was born anything but in Normal, Illinois, setting the stage for a lifetime association with irony, paradox and slightly twisted humor. He majored in microbiology at the University of Illinois, and received his MD from Northwestern University. He completed his pediatric residency at the University of Connecticut, where he was also Chief Resident, during which time he vigorously acquired additional expertise in Pediatric Critical Care. For the next 12 years, he was the Director of Inpatient Services and an attending in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, first at Hartford Hospital, then at Connecticut Children's Medical Center. He has been intimately involved in student and resident education throughout his career. Dr. Kelly and his cat (named "Kick"---"Kick, the cat"!) moved to San Francisco in January 1999 to take his present position. This position is central to student and resident education, but also allows his own professional development in this important area. He has participated in the Teaching Scholars Program at UCSF and has been selected to join the first class in the Academy of Medical Educators, serving as the Chair of The Innovations Funding Committee. He is the faculty mentor for the Pediatric Interest Group, and serves as a key advisor for students seeking careers in Pediatrics. He received the Department of Pediatrics Faculty Award for Outstanding Teaching in June, 2002. |
