Teaching Scholars Program
is
Assistant Adjunct Professor in Departments of Physiology and Stomatology.
He received a medical degree from the University of Belgrade, Yugoslavia
in 1991. From 1992 through 1997 he worked as research associate at the
Department of Pharmacology at the Loyola University (Chicago), where
he studied neurodegenerative diseases and neurobiology of drug abuse.
From 1997 through the end of 2000 (when he joined the UCSF faculty),
Dr. Mitrovic was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Anatomy
where he studied nerve injury and pain. Since January 2001 he has dedicated
most of his time to his primary interest - classroom teaching. He received
teaching awards from medical student classes of 2004, 2005 and 2007
and dental school classes of 2005 and 2007. Dr. Mitrovic is a recipient
of the Henry J. Kaiser Award for Excellence in Teaching as well as the
Academic Senate's Award for Distinction in Teaching. Dr. Mitrovic's
educational interests include educational methodology and curricular
development and he is an active member of the International Association
of Medical Science Educators. Most recently, together with a group of
first-year medical students he has initiated a program designed to increase
medical student interest and participation in biomedical research.
