Using the School of Medicine's Image Bank
&
School of Medicine's New Form Engine
In Attendance: Valentina Bettencourt, Webresources; Beth Berrean, Webresources; Cynthia Milionis, Webresources; Eduardo Ballesteros, ISU; Kap Stann, Communications; Gabrielle Fisher, External Programs; Tara Marchand; Office of Educational Technology; Naomi Wong, OHRS; Joaquin Castillo Arana, Faculty Medical Group; Patrick DelaHunt, Association of Clinical Faculty; Victoria Ruddick, OME; Anna Lincoln, Continuing Medical Education
We are proud to announce that we have instituted many of the special features which you have requested, including an image bank, a form engine and printer friendly pages.
1) Cynthia Milionis has developed the School of Medicine’s new image
bank. It is located here:
http://medschool.ucsf.edu/web
resources/stock_photos/
Please bookmark the location as the image bank is not linked from within the site, in order to limit its use to only our internal web workers.
Please keep in mind that this is a work in progress and we will be adding images to it as they become available. We welcome contributions to the image bank, so if you have images you would like to contribute, now or in the future we would appreciate it.
Cynthia also reviewed the requirements for placing an image on our website,
as well as guidelines for formatting and displaying them. You may find that
information here:
http://medschool.ucsf.edu/webresources/web_style_guide/photos_graphics.aspx
If you would like to print out the information for easy reference, she has
created a PDF which may be downloaded here:
http://medschool.ucsf.edu/webresources/pdf/stock_photos.pdf
Additionally, I would like to direct you to Tara Marchand’s notes (in PDF format)
on image optimization using MicroSoft PhotoEditor, which you should all have
on your machines.

Also, please remember that if you post photos of people, you will need them to sign photo releases for you. That form is available in the Image Bank homepage along with other useful links.
Now that you have the resources, we look forward to seeing more images on your sites!
2) Eduardo Ballesteros, of ISU revealed the new Form Engine which he has developed. This will allow us (Valentina and Beth) to create forms for you on the fly. Whereas previously, the turn-around time for creating a new form took weeks, it will now be only days. Additionally, the results will be tabulated for you in Excel format rather than coming in a series of email messages. This format will allow you to manipulate the data much more efficiently.
This is a good time to look at your sites and see if there are any forms which you would like created. In particular, this is a great time to update all those forms which your users have had to download in Word format, fill out and fax in. Now you can have the data submitted directly via the web.
3) Our printer-friendly function is now live on the website.
This presents the page in a new window, stripped of the navigation. Of course,
you may suppress this function if you wish. (For instance on ‘index’ style pages.)
To learn how to do so, see the following tutorial:
http://medschool.ucsf.edu/webresources/tutorials/printerfreindly.aspx
4) It was pointed out to us that the URL for the Web Update tool is:
http://tools.medschool.ucsf.edu/webupdate/
not:
http://tools.medschool.ucsf.edu/
Please update your bookmarks accordingly.
5) Our next meeting will be hosted by Beth and Cynthia. (Valentina will be on vacation.) They are planning on holding the meeting in a sunny outdoor location and will keep you posted. They will be focusing on helping you review your own web site goals.
6) As always, if you have expertise you would like to share with the group,
or if you have requests for a meeting topic, we are more than happy to get your
input. Please let us know!
