Preview Pages on an Actual Browser
Do not rely on DreamWeaver/DW for previewing your pages since you will not get an accurate impression of how your page looks and behaves. You may have learned along the way that you can preview your pages in a browser through DreamWeaver, using either the File > Preview in Browser command or by hitting F12. This may work fine for simple pages written in .html, however much of our site (left-hand navigation, footer navigation, headers, etc.) runs off scripts on the back-end server which DW cannot 'read'. This is an example of a page previewed from within DW. Notice that it does not display navigation, USCF or School of Medicine headers.
This is the same page, previewed by browsing to it in a browser. As you can see, this page is complete.
To preview in an actual browser, navigate to your site on the Integration server (URL: http://intmedschool.ucsf.edu), then navigate to the specific page which you are working on. Remember, your work area is on the Integration server and this is where you are making your changes. You will not see your changes on the live site (URL: http://medschool.ucsf.edu) until you have published them with the WebUpdate Tool. Save often and refresh the preview as you go As you work in DreamWeaver, keep the page open in a browser. Remember to save often. Each time you save you can view your changes by returning to the browser and refreshing it. |
