Using Preformatted Library Items
(Graphics, Tables and See Also Boxes)

Introduction

Locating, selecting and inserting library items

Introduction

Our design/redesigner has created a suite of preformatted library items for your use, such as tables, call-out boxes etc. There is also a set of images available for your use.

This will save you from having to create or build your own banners, tables, etc. In addition, your pages will look professional and will retain the overall look and feel of the School of Medicine website.

This image shows you a sample of the library elements available to you.

Table Styles

Locating, selecting and inserting library items

As always, you will be working from within DreamWeaver. Make sure your site files are open. ( To do so, go to Window > Site or hit F8.)

At the root of the site you will see the templates folder.

Finding Your Preformatted Libray Items

In the templates folder, you will find three sets of preformatted items for your use. Each set is color coded to match your site. They are called _library_orange.asp, _library_blue.asp, and _library_teal.asp.

Preformatted graphics are located in the same folder in a file named _graphics.aspx.

Open your library by clicking on it in the Site Window.

An explanation of the elements on this page may be found in our styleguide along with guidelines for their use. Please use it as a reference as you format your pages.

To transfer an element from the library to your page, simply select it, copy it (Ctrl C) and paste it into your page (Ctrl V).

Note: Text formatting is already included in these elements, so you should not have to do any additional text formatting. See below for how to add standardized text formatting to your pages. An exception to this is that you must add styles to links within tables and navigation elements.

Content formatting:

  • Main content must be no wider than 415 pixels in width, this includes images. Anything bigger than this will 'bust' the design/redesign and ruin the look of the page.
  • We have provided preformatted styles for your text formatting. These will allow you to use the standard text elements, including colored headers and subheaders. We have also provided you with a way to make your text stand out (bold and red) as well as a version of small text for such items as table text and copyrights. These use what are known as 'styles' or 'css'.

To apply these styles to your text, (in DreamWeaver) select the text, right click, scroll to 'CSS Styles' then select the style you wish to use from the pop up list. These preformatted styles and explanations are included in the web style guide along with the preformatted tables in the 'library' files in the templates folder.
