Mapping a Site in DreamWeaver (Creating a Site)

Now that you have mapped a network drive, you will need to map a site in Dreamweaver to work on that site. You will also need to edit a few preferences to allow for more efficient editing of your site.

Please note that depending on your version of DreamWeaver/DW, there may be slight variations in this process. If in doubt, please view the DreamWeaver help entry for your version of DW.

On the top tool bar go to Site > New Site (or Manage Sites).

You will be presented with the following pop up window. Select the "Advanced" Tab.

Site Definition

Complete this dialogue box exactly as shown above.

  • In the "Site Name" field, name your new site Medschool (or if you are in a department such as Pediatrics, Dermatology, Family and Community Medicine, etc. use your department name).
  • Enter V:\ (the named drive) in the "Local Root Folder" field.
  • Check "Refresh local file list automatically"
  • Leave the "Default images folder" field blank.
  • Select the "Site Root" option for the "Links relative to" radio buttons.
  • Leave the "HTTP address" blank.
  • The "Case-sensitive links" option should be left unchecked.
  • The "Cache" checkbox should be selected.

Click "OK"

You will be presented with this pop-up dialogue box.

Site Definition

Select "OK".

You will see the entire School of Medicine site structure in the Site Window. (If the Site Window is not visible go to Window > Site or hit F8.)

Browse to your particular site within the School of Medicine site to edit or add pages.

Note: From now on, you will be using the Site Files window in DreamWeaver to manage your site. Browse and select files for editing from the Site Files window. If it is not visible go to Windows > Site or hit F8.
