This session will describe methods of assessing clerkship students' competence in each of the UCSF competencies adapted from the
ACGME competencies.

At the end of this session participants will be able to

    • Describe commonly used and novel assessment methods used for clinical students, and the advantages and disadvantages of each
    • List methods of improving assessment within their own clerkships.
    • Identify and design one novel assessment to measure one of the ACGME competencies in their clerkship
    • Identify a plan to evaluate the success of their newly designed assessment

During this session participants will participate in a large group presentation that will include an overview of evaluation in medical education and tools for assessment of clinical students. Participants will then work in small groups to:

    • Identify a new or enhanced assessment that could be implemented in their clerkship.
    • Determine how the assessment activity could be used for formative feedback or to contribute to the students' final clerkship evaluation.
