School of Medicine Key Educational Skills Workshop

Preparing and Conducting Site Visits

Principal Faculty:

Robert B. Baron, MD, MS
Associate Dean of Graduate and Continuing Medical Education
UCSF School of Medicine

Maintaining accreditation is an essential responsibility of GME program directors, key faculty, and program coordinators. The Program Information Form (PIF) and the site visit itself are the key processes that influence accreditation success. Completing the PIF and preparing for the site visit require long-term collaboration, organization and contributions from the faculty, residents and fellows, and staff. One of the highlights of the workshop is a panel discussion with program directors and staff who have recently had a site visit. At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

    • complete the PIF and plan in advance for ACGME site visits
    • prepare and motivate faculty, trainees, and staff for participation in the process
    • access local and national resources
    • organize the site visit day
    • describe important pitfalls to avoid during the site visit
    • anticipate what will happen in an RRC meeting when RRC members discuss your program
